Change Your Relationship with Food
If you’re like most people who are struggling to achieve the body they want, it’s most likely due to your relationship with food. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE food, all kinds of food. However, there comes a time when we look in the mirror or walk up those flight of steps and say “Damn, I need to do something about this.”
If you live in the US, you know it’s all too easy to find completely crappy food. At every corner there are evil fried, sweet, and fatty foods shoved in your face. In order to get a grip on this problem, we need to step back and have a different outlook on food. I know, easier said than done, but you CAN do it!
I once heard bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler make a statement about food, he said something along the lines of eat for function not for taste. Now, if you’re like me, life is about compromise and moderation, so while I totally agree with his statement, I also feel there needs to be some enjoyment as well. If not, then why do we have taste buds?? Finding a balance between eating for function and necessity and eating for pleasure can be the ticket we are looking for.
Some tricks, although not new by any means, to keeping your cravings in check can be:
- Drinking more water. This helps curb our appetite!
- Don’t allow yourself to get super hungry. It’s easier to make bad choices.
- Workout more often, that way when you do cheat with food, it won’t be as much of an impact on your body and health.
- Set realistic goals for yourself. Having a goal or sets of goals will give you purpose and limit the mindless eating that we often find ourselves doing!
Like I said, these aren’t new ideas, but they work. Take the first steps in your journey today, train your brain and stomach to have a different relationship with the food we eat everyday!
